CCTV stands for closed-circuit television. The two common types of cameras used are analog and IP-based cameras. With analog cameras, video is recorded and stored on site. IP (internet protocol) based cameras offer higher resolution and allows video to be monitored remotely via an internet connection.
Combined with software, IP security cameras can be programmed to alert and record only when their view senses unusual movement. The video can be stored at preferred quality for a certain amount of time.
Examples of CCTV and IP-based camera uses:
- Crime management
- Disaster management
- Neighborhood monitoring
- Quality control
- Medical diagnosis
- Retail intelligence
- Behavioral research
- Home surveillance
- Business security
